Be part of the MLK National Day of Service

We’d love to have you as part of our Volunteer day at the Pendleton Center for the Arts. Each year we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. by giving back to the community. We try to make the day as fun as possible, and we knock out all the work we have to do in just two hours. A large group makes things even MORE fun, so bring a friend and get ready to clean, paint, and spiff up the building.

WHEN: Monday, January 20, 10 AM – 12 PM
WHERE: Pendleton Center for the Arts
WHAT: Spend two hours helping out then enjoy a free lunch with us.

ABOUT THE DAY OF SERVICE: Legislation signed in 1983 marked the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a federal holiday. In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service. Each year, on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is observed by community members who volunteering for a two-hour shift at the Pendleton Center for the Arts. Volunteers work from 10:00 AM to noon, painting, cleaning, and spiffing up the Carnegie Library building that PCA calls home. Participants should bring clothes they can get dirty in and a sense of adventure.

The event has become one of PCA’s largest one-day gatherings of volunteers over the years, attracting from 40 – 60 people of all ages looking for a fun way to give back. The MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.” The project is open to anyone, and all materials and supplies are provided. Participants will share in a free lunch provided by PCA at noon.
