FASTENINGS CHALLENGE

Exhibit Oct. 8 —Dec. 31, 2026
ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists and craftspeople 16+, residing in Oregon. Artists may enter up to two sets of buttons, buckles, clasps, frog closures, or other objects used to fasten clothing.
Sets should consist of a minimum of two (2) pieces and a maximum of eight (8) pieces. Any non-button closure with two parts may be considered one entry or may be submitted in sets (for example, two matching frog closures).
Entries should be able to fit on a 6”x 9” display card (provided by PCA) that our staff will attach entries to after submission. Smaller works may be displayed on smaller cards for aesthetic considerations.
ENTRY FEE: There is no entry fee to participate.
DELIVERY: Items should be delivered to the Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main Street, Pendleton, OR 97801 on or before Oct. 1, 2026. Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form (see below).
SHIPPING: Items may be hand-delivered or shipped to Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 North Main Street, Pendleton, OR 97801, Attn: Fastenings Challenge. Shipped work must be accompanied by sufficient packing material, paid return postage and a printed return shipping label.
PICK UP: No works may be removed from the exhibit before December 31, 2026. All artwork must be picked up Saturday, January 19, 2027. Work being shipped back to the artist will ship on or before January 31. No works may be stored, and work unclaimed or without return postage after Feb. 15, 2027 will be considered property of the Pendleton Center for the Arts.

Sustainability Award: best use of post-consumer waste – $100
Best use of non-traditional materials – $100
Best Technical Excellence/Craftsmanship Award – $100
Emerging Artist Award (ages 16-18) – $100
Honorable Mentions – 4 @ $50 each
SALES: Sale of fastening sets is encouraged but not required. A 30% commission to the Pendleton Center for the Arts will be deducted from all sales. Make sure listed price listed reflects this. If your work is not for sale, a dollar value must still be entered on the label for insurance purposes based on prior sales history. Checks for sold work are mailed on or before January 31, 2026.
LIABILITY: Every reasonable precaution will be taken in handling entries. However, the Arts Council of Pendleton /Pendleton Center for the Arts will not assume responsibility for any loss or damage to artwork that is the result of materials or techniques that make the piece difficult to handle or display. The entering of a work of art shall be understood to imply agreement with all conditions set forth in this circular. Insurance values for works must be based on documented prior sales of similar work by the artist.
This exhibition is non-juried; all entries, unless they don’t meet the eligibility guidelines, will be displayed in the lighted display cases in the Pendleton Foundation Trust Fine Craft Marketplace at the Pendleton Center for the Arts (PCA).
