The Arts Council of Pendleton invites artists and artist groups to submit proposals for an exhibition in the East Oregonian Gallery at the Pendleton Center for the Arts in Pendleton, Oregon. The 1800 sq. ft gallery anchors the main floor of the Arts Center, housed in the beautifully restored 1915 Carnegie Library Building. Exhibits rotate every 4 – 6 weeks and feature a mix of regional emerging artists and artists from outside the region. Artists are chosen by the Exhibits Committee of the Pendleton Center for the Arts, which meets twice yearly. (Please note deadlines above).
THEMES
2009 is the 100th Anniversary of the Pendleton Woolen Mills. We will be focusing on textile arts and works in other media that are inspired by textiles in general and/or Pendleton blankets specifically. Works that include wool in any form as an art medium (with an emphasis on tapestries), work that speaks to the use of blankets in traditional and/or contemporary culture, textiles from materials other than wool and proposals that reference textiles in even the broadest manner will be considered. Approximately 6 exhibits will be chosen for the year.
2010 is the 100th Anniversary of the Pendleton Round-Up. We will be focusing on “western art”. Both representational and contemporary interpretations of western culture will be accepted. Work in any media will be considered. Approximately 6 exhibits will be chosen for the year
PROPOSALS
Please submit a description of your proposal for an exhibit along with 10 – 12 images of recent work in high resolution tiff or jpeg format on CD-ROM, accompanied by a printed listing of the title, medium, year and size of each work. Please include a resume and biography. If proposing a group show, include the above materials for all artists involved. If proposing for an installation or performance, please also include a statement outlining your spatial and material needs.
